Oman Investment: Logistics, Green Hydrogen and the Vision 2040 Bet
Oman is quietly emerging as a green-hydrogen and logistics hub, anchored by Duqm, Salalah and Sohar — backed by Vision 2040 and a recently sovereign-rated debt profile.
The Sultanate of Oman's Vision 2040 strategy emphasises logistics, manufacturing, tourism and energy transition. Duqm — a Special Economic Zone on the Arabian Sea — is positioned as a deep-water alternative to Strait of Hormuz routes, hosting refineries, dry docks and one of the largest planned green-hydrogen complexes globally through Hydrom-led auctions.
Salalah and Sohar ports complement the network, with Salalah ranked among the world's top transhipment hubs. Oman Investment Authority (OIA) consolidated state-owned enterprises and has pursued IPOs of OQ Gas Networks, OQ Exploration & Production and Abraj Energy Services on the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX), broadening the local equity story.
Sovereign credit ratings have improved as fiscal reforms — including VAT introduction and energy-subsidy rationalisation — narrow the deficit. Long-duration green-hydrogen offtakes signed with European and Asian buyers position Oman to capture early-mover share in the emerging clean-molecule trade.
